Minimum Qualifications
Must have experience in medical interpreting and be fluent in English and Spanish. A certificate in medical interpreting is preferred or must be willing to become certified in medical interpreting within one year. Must be available to teach day or evenings for a minimum of 12 hours per week and meet vaccination requirements of clinical sites. Applicants must be proficient with computer software programs; have a valid North Carolina Driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record and be willing to travel occasionally. Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills as well as demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively with others.
Preferred Qualifications
A Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution in a health-related field is preferred. Experience teaching adults and providing translation in a healthcare setting and teaching online courses is preferred.
Position Description
The primary responsibility of the Spanish Medical Interpreter Instructor is to teach students to use interpretive skills according to the standards developed by the National Board of Certification for Medical Interpreters and the Certification Commission for Healthcare Interpreters. The instructor will teach in compliance with appropriate state agencies, mandated curriculums, program guidelines, and regulations. Duties include evaluating the competency of each student through laboratory or skill practice and clinical evaluations and maintain academic attendance and student records. The instructor is required to travel to clinical sites and to perform all other duties as assigned by the Allied Health Director or Associate Vice President for Workforce Continuing Education Services.
If selected, the instructor must submit to a criminal background check and drug screening and must meet the vaccination requirements of clinical sites.
