Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Education, Counseling/Human Services, Marketing, or closely related field; supplemented by three (3) to five (5) years previous experience and/or training that includes experience as head coach at the high school level or beyond as an a collegiate assistant or experience in Student Development in area related to recruitment, student activities, outreach and/or advisor/counselor.

  • Knowledge and understanding of Federal Title IX and NJCAA and Region 10 rules, regulations and standards.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and field questions in a public setting. Must be able to communicate well to the print and electronic media.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Fundamental understanding of budgeting and financial records keeping.
  • Knowledge of sport procedures and praxis.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Physical Requirements:  Tasks involve the ability to exert very moderate physical effort in light work, typically involving some combination of walking, standing, climbing, balancing, reaching, bending, stooping, kneeling and crawling, and which may involve the lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (up to 20 pounds).

Position Description

Under general supervision, provides joint responsibilities in Student Development Services and intercollegiate athletics. Duties include assisting with recruitment, community outreach, student activities, counseling/advising, as well as coaching softball and fundraising. Responsible in assisting with the oversight, supervision and administration of the Women's softball program of Pitt Community College. Performs related work as directed. Dually reports to the Assistant Dean, Counseling and Student Services and the Director of Athletics.
 

Conducts high school recruiting visits including CACRAO events; assists in the recruitment of nontraditional students, HSE/AHS, home school population, and other special populations in the community through career fairs, churches, etc.
 
Serves on the recruitment planning team and coordinates assigned activities.
 
Assist with the development and implementation of recruitment and marketing plans with the purpose of promoting PCC's visibility and general recruitment efforts.
Assists with the recruitment, training and supervision of PCC Students to assist in various recruitment activities.
Utilize software tools to track and perform analysis on recruitment efforts.
Distributes admission and recruitment information.
 
Assists with the implementation of special recruitment projects.
 
Assists in the planning and implementation of New Student Orientation.
 
Provide support during walk in registration, special events and campus tours.
 
Provide early alert follow up assistance to faculty on students post- Success Navigator.
 
Assists with the student activities such as SGA, clubs, honor societies, and special events.
 
Coaches women's intercollegiate softball team with primary responsibilities for assisting with supervision of all practices and games while abiding by all conference and NJCAA and Region 10 rules and regulations.
 
Assists with a recruiting plan for softball team. Contact and communicate with high school coaches and prospective softball student-athletes.
 
Performs scouting and recruitment for the women's softball team.
 
Assists with the academic progress and study hall.
 
Assists with conditioning program and off-season practice.
 
Ensure that equipment and practice and game facilities are safe and in good condition. Keep track of equipment and uniforms.
 
Ensure that medical guideline for injured athletes are followed.
 
Assists and participates in fund-raising campaigns.
 
Attends athletic events and competitions.
Receives and/or reviews various records and reports including newsletter, newspapers, articles, telephone calls/messages/e-mails, contracts, student interest cards, minutes/agenda, etc.
 
Prepares and/or processes various records and reports including petition to travel, travel reimbursement, student interest cards, customer satisfaction surveys, game and player statistics, etc. Refers to Pitt Community College catalog, class schedules, recruiting schedules, Datatel information, Pitt Community College policies and procedures, e-mail documents, NJCAA and Region 10 rules and regulations, athletics policies and procedures, etc.
 
Operates a variety of office and specialized equipment such as computer, printer, fax machine, copy machine, athletic equipment, weights/fitness equipment, etc.
 
Uses camera, calculator, telephone/answering machine, sports paraphernalia, office and computer supplies, CD's, computer disks, and computer software such as Microsoft Word, Datatel, AVISO, Microsoft Publisher, Microsoft Excel, etc.
 
Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals including immediate supervisor, students, parents, newsprint and electronic media, high school counselors, coaches, College personnel, other College coaches and Athletics personnel, and the general public.
 
Performs general offices tasks such as keyboarding, clerical work, filing, etc.
 
Performs accurate record keeping such as statistical and journal entry; serves on college committees.
 
Performs related duties as directed.
