Position Description

DEFINITION:

This position is responsible for the overall development, management, promotion, and evaluation of Student Life. The coordinator will also serve as the main point of contact for all clubs, Phi Theta Kappa (PTK), and Student Government Association (SGA).

 

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED:

  • Receives supervision from the Dean of Student Affairs
  • Supervises Program Assistants (work-study students)

 

Duties & Responsibilities (Essential Functions)

 

ESSENTIAL AND OTHER IMPORTANT FUNCTIONS STATEMENTS:

Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

 

  • Works with college administration, students, and faculty to create and administer a college-wide activity plan for events that fosters learning, student engagement, and service, and promotes opportunities for personal growth and leadership development.
  • Implements strategies and initiatives to increase student participation and engagement in a variety of extracurricular activities.
  • Oversees activities of all chartered college student organizations and clubs, including Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) and Student Government Association (SGA). Serves as a resource for faculty and staff in their roles as student club advisors and encourage participation in student activities. Facilitates the chartering of new student clubs and organizations.
  • Maintains an updated student life calendar and social media presence to include schedules of student workshops, on and off campus student activities and community events where the College is being represented.
  • Collaborates with the Community Relations team to conceptualize and develop communications and marketing plans for digital and social media channels, and to create online/social media content (including, but not limited to tweets, status updates, photos and interactive videos) to support social media goals.
  • Coordinates, schedules and manages the intramural programs.
  • Coordinates annual campus wide events such as Sea Devil Summer, Welcome Week and the Student Recognition Ceremony.
  • Supports CFCC’s Peer Mentor Program by developing programming, monitoring outcomes, and serving as a team member that supports peer mentors and mentees.
  • Serves as the College Coordinator for CFCC’s participation in the Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange for Young Professionals Program.  This includes providing support and guidance to program participants and all correspondence with program officials.
  • Represents the College to prospective students and assists with institutional recruitment and retention efforts.
  • Develops and implements educational outreach programs focused on responsible citizenship, ethical development and making healthy choices
  • Creates and publishes the student newsletter.
  • Participates in appropriate committees and task forces as assigned.
  • Mentors student leaders and workers.
  • Develops and monitors annual goals and objectives for all areas associated with student life.
  • Evaluates outcomes from activities and programs to ensure that the needs of students are being met.
  • Maintains statistical reports, surveys and other records to assess accomplishments, appropriate student learning outcomes, and departmental needs.
  • Provides input to the development and monitoring of the annual budget for Clubs, PTK, SGA and intramural sports while working closely with the Dean of Student Affairs.
  • Performs other job-related duties and projects as assigned in support of the College's mission, core values and goals.

 

Other Important Functions:

  • Appropriately handle and secure confidential information.
  • Fostering and maintaining favorable relationships with other college departments, divisions, members of clubs and organizations.
  • Attends staff meetings as necessary.
  • Performs related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

 

Qualifications

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Knowledge of:

  • Social Media platforms – Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, SnapChat, TikTok, YouTube, etc.
  • Proficient English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation; and,
  • Pertinent federal, state, local and college laws, codes, policies and regulations.
  • Associated Press (AP) writing style.
  • Adobe Creative Cloud Suite
  • Basic understanding of branding and graphic brand management.
  • Ability to work in a team environment as well as independently to manage student life priorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to function with minimal direct supervision; effective time management and organizational skills; ability to prioritize projects and meet deadlines

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING GUIDELINES:

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.  A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
