Master's degree in Social Work, Human Services, Guidance Counseling, or Psychology.
Preferred Qualifications
Minimum requirements plus work experience in the NC Community College System. Experience with Datatel/Colleague system.
Position Description
Initiate, implement and support strategies necessary to ensure student success and increase student retention. Serve as an advocate and resource for students. Act as a liaison between students and faculty as necessary. Serve as a resource for faculty by assisting them in the retention of students and by increasing instructors’ use of effective retention strategies. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Assist students in resolving conflicts – potential and/or existing – that are inhibiting their academic success and perseverance. Such inhibitors may include but are not limited to childcare, transportation, financial, academic, and job-related conflicts. Assist with student enrollment, testing, registration, and advising new students as needed. Assist with New Student Orientation sessions. Make visits to classes each semester to introduce Student Support services. Act on notifications of students deemed “at risk” by faculty within “Starfish”, ECC’s Early Alert system. Follow up on “Starfish” submissions via telephone, individual contact or mail with the “at risk” student. Provide follow-up information within Starfish as well as to referring instructor. Establish a student-friendly appointment system that lends itself to both student and instructor referrals. Refer students to academic support services and campus resources to assist their academic success and perseverance in school. Refer students to community resources to assist their academic success and perseverance in school. Communicate with faculty regarding students via other means as needed, i.e. phone calls, office visits, and informative memos. Manage any emergency or hardship situation a student encounters; employ any funds or resources available for assistance. Serve as ECC’s Coordinator for Child Care Financial Assistance Program. Organize College related community events as necessary. Serve as Coordinator for Disability Services - lead disability servicing and providing instructional accommodations to college student populations in adherence with the Americans with Disability Act (ADA) federal regulations. Maintain disability documentation. Serve on Behavior Assessment Team, select Student Success Initiative Teams, and other committees as required. Serve as a proctor for admissions and TEAS testing. Encourage students to get involved in campus activities. Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
