Minimum Qualifications

Required

  • Current and valid NC Cosmetic Board Cosmetologist license 
  • Current and valid NC Cosmetic Board Cosmetologist teaching license
  • Must have a minimum of 3 years' cosmetology experience
  • Must be able to effectively teach online and face-to-face courses

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred:

  • Experience teaching cosmetology students
  • Teaching experience
  • LMS experience

Position Description

Position Summary

Responsible for teaching assigned Cosmetology courses on an as needed basis for weeks and/or a full semester term when permanent instructors are unavailable to provide instruction. May have instructional assignment(s) at the Martin Community College Main Campus (Williamston) and/or the Bertie High School (Windsor). Position will report to Program Director of Cosmetology and the Division Chair for Business, Technology, and Cosmetology. 

Candidate must be able to commit to a long-term (multiple weeks and/or full semester) substitute teaching post

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Utilize course material provided by the permanent course instructor and Program Director
  • Utilize provided course material to create continuity of instruction for students 
  • Work in the Learning Management System (LMS) as well as student check in program to capture hours for the State Board of Cosmetics
  • Adhere to all the State Board of Cosmetics policies and procedures 
  • Organize and maintain a clean and efficient classroom and laboratory setting; model and instruct students on the importance of a clean and organized work environment
  • Aid students in obtaining the theory, practical, and clinical experience needed to allow them to become licensed cosmetologists
  • Ensure client satisfaction by effectively managing the lab floor, counseling, and guiding students
  • Assist in setting salon appointments as needed 
  • Depending on instructional needs: Organize a semester course following departmental guidelines, create course materials (tests, handouts, lectures, slides, assignments, rubrics, models, activities, group work), determine a fair grading system, set up materials on Moodle (grade book, tests, lectures)
  • Enforce the cosmetology policies and procedures outlined in the cosmetology student handbook 
  • Keep attendance using Self-Service
  • Complete FTE and progress reports as required
  • Correspond with students and supervisors through e-mail in a timely manner. Be accessible to supervisors by phone and email
  • Maintain student grades on a weekly basis and submit grade reports as required

  • Work with students registered with Disabilities Services  
  • Complete all compulsory training in regards to FERPA, Title IX, and Campus Safety as required
  • Respond to student issues professionally and report unresolved issues or classroom incidents to the Program Director
  • Adhere to all departmental, divisional, and campus policies and procedures
  • Other duties as assigned
