Master’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in education, behavioral sciences, or a closely related field with two years of increasing responsibility in academic coaching, and advising experience or other relevant instructional coaching responsibilities.

Position Description

Function as a team member within the Student Success team as well as the Student Services Division.
 
Serve as an advocate for student success and career development by forging relationships between faculty, students, and staff members of the College.
 
Share in general departmental admissions duty and counseling responsibilities to include, but not limited to interpreting and applying College admission standards and policies in determination of student eligibility and standing.
 
Provide follow-up response for Early Intervention process with student and/or faculty/staff and serve as a liaison between student services and academics.
 
Provide career, personal, and crisis counseling to students and assist in making appropriate recommendations and referrals to local agencies.
 
Work with community partners and identify ways to collaborate.
 
Ensure compliance and confidentiality with all policies and procedures of the College, NC Community College System, and applicable State and Federal agencies.
 
Maintain the technical competencies necessary to the job function, think critically, and speak in public.
 
Provide academic, vocational, personal, and social counseling support to students.
 
Refer students to outside community agencies as appropriate for guidance and support; coordinate internal support services including but not limited to tutoring, interpreting, note taking, male mentoring, college connections, success closet, and other student support endeavors.
 
Perform other duties as may be assigned by supervisor. 

Knowledge of:
A student-centered customer service attitude is essential.

Strong personal and professional integrity, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and a strong commitment to promoting and cultivating a student-centered learning culture is critical.

Knowledge of academic programs, career assessment instruments, and interpretation of such instruments as they apply to College degree, diploma, or certificate programs.

Goal setting and skill-building techniques that focus on teaching self-advocacy and reflective thinking to prompt student success.

Ability to:
Use a holistic approach to encourage and support students in defining their purpose.

Assist students with developing realistic goals for student success along a career pathway that includes degree mapping and career choice.

Guide students to reflect and act on the range of goals, interests, extracurricular activities, and passions available in higher education.

Use dialogue, inquiry, career assessment, goal setting, accountability, and general motivational techniques to guide students toward realistic academic and career goals.

Work with students in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their educational and professional potential.

Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

Relate to students with different cultural and social backgrounds. 

Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty, and support staff to ensure student success.
