Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Two years of experience in a higher education setting
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining a student-centered and effective working relationship with students, faculty, staff and the public; commitment to a team building approach
  • Ability to think “outside of the box” and embrace change
  • Ability to communicate effectively, skilled in presenting ideas and concepts orally and in writing
  • Computer skills including word processing, spreadsheet, statistical reporting

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or higher preferred

Position Description

General Function:  Under the supervision of the Director of Learning Resources and Academic Support Services, the Success Coach/Retention Specialist supports the College’s student success initiatives by providing success coaching and advising services to students and implementing retention strategies to improve student persistence.  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serve as success coach for a caseload of students and provide timely proactive outreach to students
  • Following a prescribed communication plan to push critical information to students at key points in the semester
  • Provide coaching and advising services to students in need of schedule changes, program changes, and additional resources for success
  • Perform initial intake advising for on-boarding incoming curriculum students
  • Serve as an academic advisor to freshman/sophomore Early College High School students
  • Manage the College’s retention software program and provide training to faculty and staff on use of program
  • Expand the functions, capabilities, and usage of College’s retention software program
  • Promote support services, student success and retention strategies, and tutoring usage through a variety of print and digital campaigns, as well as class visits and faculty and staff sessions. 
  • Assist with collecting and reporting student persistence and retention data.
  • Participate in college-wide and services, events, and activities to promote the growth of the college
  • Participate in professional development activities and maintain knowledge of current trends of student success and retention
  • Serve on committees related to academic support, advising, and student success as needed
  • Perform other related duties as required
