  5. Must have good organizational skills to maintain records and schedules for faculty/staff relocations and housekeeping work assignments.

 

 

Essential Functions, Job Duties, and Responsibilities:

The Housekeeping Supervisor is a working supervisory position responsible for working with, coordinating, and/or supervising all full time, part time, and contract housekeeping employees who maintain and ensure the cleaning standards performed in all Durham Tech buildings located on the Main Campus, Northern Durham campus, Orange County Campus, and Duke Street North Campus. This supervisor is also responsible for providing direction and oversight as well as assisting with setting up special room arrangements, relocating furniture and equipment items, performing other duties as directed by the Assistant Director, achieving the objectives of the Facility Services Department, and carrying out all duties as specified in the contract of employment. More specifically, and consistent with the employee’s current contract of employment, the employee is responsible for the following:

  1. Responsible for providing direction and assisting with setting up special room arrangements; relocating DT faculty and staff; moving furniture and equipment; picking up items designated for surplus and delivering to the warehouse; and transporting items to or from the Facility Services Department warehouse as directed.
  2. Supervise and maintain the cleaning standards of all DT buildings.
  3. Provide liaison for contract activities between DT and contracted janitorial service companies performing services for DT.  Among the duties included is the daily communication necessary to maintain satisfactory cleaning standards, assisting in establishing contract conditions and financial conditions, and enforcing contract requirements,
  4. Inspect areas cleaned by staff and contract housekeepers daily to ensure satisfactory performance, resolving any deficiencies, and immediately report problem areas to the Assistant Director when identified.
  5. Monitor hallways, lounges and rest rooms for cleanliness, spills and debris on a daily basis throughout the work period, resolving any deficiencies, and immediately reporting any problem areas to the Assistant Director when identified.
  6. Ensure that all entrances/exits are swept and all trashcans are emptied on a daily basis.
  7. Ensure that evening staff are checking in and out on a daily basis by verifying check-in check-out times with security and report any time discrepancies with his/her supervisor.   Will conduct weekly random evening checks during all hours of the evening and will also check in and out to record these random checks.
  8. Will create and maintain a spreadsheet for ordering supplies with all vendor information on it for the department to use in absence of Supervisor
  9. Conduct monthly building inspections with Building Coordinators for housekeeping issues and weekly inspections to report building components, such as light bulbs, ceiling tiles, or other building features, that require maintenance or repairs.  Inspection sheets to be signed by Building Coordinator and turned in to the Work Order Coordinator to create the necessary work orders.
  10. Order materials and supplies necessary to keep all housekeepers and buildings properly equipped.
  11. Work with the warehouse manager to create and maintain required inventory of supplies, equipment, and consumables on hand.
  12. Perform minor repairs on housekeeping equipment to extend the life of the equipment.
  13. Ensure that the cleaning equipment and supplies are properly maintained and stored.
  14. Ensure that the storerooms and/or janitor closets in each facility are maintained in a clean and orderly manner.
  15. Be willing to train and upgrade knowledge in assigned duties.
  16. Be prepared to change and adjust schedule by the season, quarter or semester and when otherwise necessary to perform tasks deemed appropriate by the Director or other appropriate DT officials.
  17. Be willing and readily cooperative in being pulled off of your routine work assignment as needed to help out in temporary and emergency situations.
  18. Be respectful of all employees, including your immediate peers.
  19. Show initiative in the job by responding to problems that require immediate attention without constant or direct supervision and being prepared to handle those problems without waiting for instructions to do so, which will ensure a continuous, timely and efficient operation, and being alert for new ideas and improvements.
  20. Maintain and review a weekly schedule of recurring activities.
  21. Wear the uniforms as furnished by DT during normal working hours and keeping them neat and clean in appearance.
  22. Use all safety equipment provided by DT and as required by OSHA, the DT Safety Committee and the Facility Services Department.
  23. Properly maintain and use all equipment as furnished by DT and as required by the Facility Services Department.
  24. Be regular in attendance and willing to cooperate and work with the other employees to get the job done.
  25. Report any discrepancies or deficiencies with the housekeeping staff’s compliance with the policies, procedures and objectives of the Facility Services Department to Assistant Director immediately when identified.
  26. Develop and provide appropriate training to all housekeeping staff.
  27. Meet with supervisor on both a daily basis to report issues that need immediate attention and weekly to discuss overall department functions and activities for that week.
  28. Additional duties shall include other appropriate activities as assigned by the Director and Assistant Director of Facility Services, Vice President of Finance and Administration and/or the President.
