Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor or Master’s degree related to student development, counseling, human services, education, or an academic-related field. Experience/proficiency in the use of various software packages, effective oral and written communication skills, and the ability to coordinate and prioritize duties.
Preferred Qualifications
Academic advising experience in an educational setting. Experience in higher education (faculty or staff).
Position Description
The Early College Liaison works within institutional guidelines and college policies to provide a learning-centered advising experience for students and to support effective, collaborative relations between the employees of the Early College High Schools and the college. The position reports to the Director of Student Success and Academic Advising and has the following responsibilities:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
A. Serve as the College Liaison for Surry Early College high schools by
1. Enhancing communications between high school staff and relevant staff members of Academic Affairs and Students Services,
2. Providing high school staff information on relevant college policies and procedures,
3. Providing Early Alerts to designated high school staff,
4. Mentoring and advising all Early College high school students,
5. Notifying the academic deans of scheduling needs, and
6. Coordinating and facilitating meetings between relevant college and high school employees based on the needs of either partner.
B. Provide exceptional and innovative academic advising services to prospective and current students, individually or in groups, about college policies and programs of study.
C. Advise students about the possible consequences of academic decisions and provide guidance to individual support services.
D. Assist with all phases of student recruitment, such as high school visitations, career fairs, college days, open houses, and informational sessions.
E. Prepare reports in a timely manner.
F. Attend program advisory meetings as assigned.
G. Review, interpret, and evaluate applicant test scores and other relevant information to determine the academic status of prospective and current students.
H. Participate in the coordination of Early College student orientation, registration, and graduation.
I. Participate in opportunities for professional development, such as workshops, conferences, and trainings.
J. Perform other duties which support the mission and initiatives of the college.
