Must have completed an approved Master’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, or Human Services from an accredited college or university, with at least two years’ experience. Or have a four year degree in a Human Services field (Social Work, Psychology) and a minimum of four years ‘experience.  Must have knowledge of the American Disability Act Laws and Regulation, cultural diversity, human growth and development, research and program evaluation, academic and career development as well as person/social and professional development for students.

Position Description

Counseling students on matters relating to academic success, career, education and employment.

Provides information concerning career decision-making opportunities, trends in employment, and data on 'hot jobs.'

Identifying, providing and/or coordinating the delivery of college and community, State, and Federal resources to meet students identified personal developmental, social and academic needs including, but not limited to, the below:

  • Ongoing structured, scheduled, and documented individual psychological and/or emotional counseling throughout the program.
     
  •  Academic tutoring and mentoring services.
  • Advising and recommending the most appropriate technical training career pathway after assessing numerous factors, including employment prospects in various trades/fields/areas, and the student's interests and aptitude/skill level, in collaboration with career and employment counselors.
  • Advising on the quality of the various skills training certification programs, including employability and/or labor market demand, and earnings potential.
     
  • Assessing transitional support needs, developing strategies to meet those needs, and working with employment counselors.

Administering, evaluating, and interpreting interest and aptitude tests. Conducting an initial assessment to identify, and create a strategy to address, the personal developmental, social, and academic strengths and challenges of each student.

  • Identify personal and academic strengths and challenges that must be considered and/or addressed during career and employment counseling and planning.
     
  •  Develop, document, implement, and monitor the intervention strategies that were specifically designed to address each student's personal developmental, social and academic challenges.
     
  • Periodically reassess the results of the intervention strategies that are described above. This includes documenting the findings of the reassessment and developing and implementing modifications in sufficient time to allow for student improvement.  
     
  • Establish and monitor progress toward each student's short- and long-term personal and career goals.
     
  • Encourage the development of cohort support system, as appropriate.

Determining, periodically, how the student is progressing in his/her education and career technical training.

  • Provides input regarding educational programs to be used at a college.
  • Developing and improving the academic and career guidance and counseling plan for students, and maintaining a record.
  • Collaborates and shares information with other staff, departments utilizing AVISO, ZOOM, COLLEAGUE, and other software.
     

The individual must be able to also work afternoons, evenings and possible weekends, experience working with diverse populations, adults and high school students, ability to complete various assessments with students, ability to facilitate student success workshops, excellent interpersonal, organizational, and computer skills, attention to detail motivated and self-starting, ability to work independently as well as with a team.
