Trades Instructor - Volt Center

SALARY:$40,000.00 - $45,000.00 AnnuallyDIVISION:StudentsDEPARTMENT:Volt CenterOPENING DATE:09/02/20CLOSING DATE:09/22/20 05:00 PMOCCUPATIONAL SUMMARY:
The Trades Instructor is responsible for instructing trades courses at the Volt Center. The primary duty of the position is instructional time, curriculum development and delivery. The Trades Instructor plans, coordinates, and oversees instructional delivery of assigned non-degree, workforce continuing education courses (i.e. carpentry, plumbing, HVAC, electrical, small engine repair and welding) at the Volt Center. The position also ensures consistency and quality of instruction by coordinating with part-time trade instructors to meet compliance with all certification bodies such as the National Center for Construction Education and Research requirements.ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides excellent customer service and assistance to internal and external customers through walk-in, telephone and email
  • Instructs trades courses (i.e. carpentry, plumbing, HVAC, Electrician, and small engines) at the Volt Center  
  • Plans, coordinates and oversees the assigned courses, course outline preparation, grading and evaluation of those courses
  • Develops and selects appropriate instructional materials
  • Prepares course outline and objectives consistent with course design and available resources
  • Provides instruction and direction for students
  • Ensures compliance with certification bodies such as the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER), Equipment and Engine Training Council (EETC), and the Veterans Administration
  • Registers students to  NCCER database and ensures students are provided NCCER certification card
  • Identifies and promotes opportunities for the design and development of new courses
  • Maintains records along with an inventory of supplies and equipment
  • Coordinates the ordering of books, materials, supplies, and availability of facilities for practical experiences for all courses 
  • Assists in recruiting part-time trades instructors
  • Mentors part-time instructors to develop instructional delivery capability
  • Coordinates with part-time instructors to ensure compliance with certification bodies such as NCCER
  • Networks with local employers and establishes positive working relationships
  • Promotes community awareness of program opportunities
  • Ensures courses are posted on the College’s website and appropriate state websites
  • Remains current in teaching discipline
  • Participates in appropriate committees and task forces as assigned
  • Performs other job-related duties and projects as assigned in support of the College’s mission, core values and goals

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Adult learning theory, concepts and teaching methodology

  • Knowledge of college programs, services and procedures relating to workforce development trades programs
  • Methods and techniques of program marketing and publicity
  • Working knowledge of records management and control
  • Federal, state and college requirements regarding FERPA and other applicable laws and regulations

Skills

  • Demonstrates a level of expertise on subject matter that coincides with trades courses instructing
  • Proficiency in planning, organization, communication, training, and interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency in technological systems as they apply to instruction and administrative needs, including Microsoft Office
  • Competency in monitoring/assessing the performance of self, other individuals and programs to make improvements or take corrective action
  • Attention to detail and high level of accuracy
  • Works effectively in a team environment with a customer service focus
