Minimum Qualifications

Required Education and Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in a career technical education (CTE) area, career development, workforce development, science, technology, engineering, math (STEM) area, education, or related field from a regionally accredited postsecondary institution.
• At least one year of experience working with students, faculty, and/or parents in secondary and/or postsecondary education.
• At least one year of experience working with stakeholders to develop opportunities for learners.
• At least one year of experience working in business and industry and/or demonstrated knowledge of career exploration, development, services, and/or workforce development.
• At least one year of experience using video conferencing tools like Microsoft Teams, Zoom, Collaborate, etc.
• At least one year of experience using an enterprise resource planning (ERP) system.

Preferred Education and Experience:
• Master’s degree in a career technical education (CTE) area, career development, workforce development, science, technology, engineering, math (STEM) area, education, or related field from a regionally accredited college or university.
• At least two years of experience working in business and industry.
• At least one year of experience working in a community college setting.
• At least one year of experience using the Moodle Learning Management System (LMS) or another similar LMS.

Position Description

Job Summary:

The Transition Liaison will guide high school learners to establish career and college objectives and discover community college pathways to achieve their goals. Focusing on students’ career and college development, the Liaison will implement comprehensive programs and services tailored to middle and high school learners, preparing them for careers, college, the workforce, or the military. Through these initiatives, students should be equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to embark on a career or college path successfully. Additionally, the Liaison will work closely with faculty and staff, providing valuable support and information to enhance their ability to assist students in their career and college journeys. The Transition Liaison position will serve Lake Norman High and South Iredell High Schools, the schools serving those high schools, and may also serve other schools and organizations in the county.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Enhance outreach efforts involving high school learners to raise career awareness of opportunities and assist in the enrollment of high school learners on the college level.
• Partner with community college personnel to provide middle and high school learners, parents, college faculty, and staff in the service area with valuable experiences to explore and promote understanding of local diverse careers and opportunities.
• Collaborate with high school, community college, and university personnel to compile career pathway information for distribution to students and parents while adhering to a communication plan ensuring consistent outreach to students, faculty, staff, and parents.
• Foster a collaborative and team-based work environment, demonstrating a strong commitment willing to follow tasks through to completion.
• Facilitate students’ understanding of the importance of transferable (soft) skills and their crucial role in achieving college and workplace success.
• Employ a proactive advising model that aligns with the core values and competencies for academic advising set by the National Academic Advising Association (NACADA) to encourage student success, foster progression, and promote the completion of credentials.
• Sustain accurate and adequate student records to assist in the application process, academic/career advising, and registration of high school learners.
• Provide information to college personnel regarding course needs for high school students.
• Empower students in making informed decisions by disseminating up-to-date information and guidance on various educational pathways from high schools, community colleges, universities, military options, policies, procedures, and community workforce development resources.
• Offer supportive interventions and success strategies to facilitate students’ success in high school and college courses.
• Function as a liaison with Accessibility Services for high school learners enrolled in college courses.
• Monitor student progress in high school and college classes and work with students, parents/guardians, and instructors to develop plans for success (track attendance, academic progress, early warnings, etc.).
• Conduct workshops and classroom visits with enrolled students at high schools and enhance partnerships to inform and instruct the students concerning pathway requirements.
• Engage in the institutional effectiveness process and college- and state-wide initiatives, such as program review, grants, the College’s Strategic Plan, NC Guided Pathways, and Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC).
• Liaise with other stakeholders to proactively prepare for external compliance reporting.
• Maintain, complete, and submit accurate and timely documentation to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal requirements, student attendance, and grades as indicated by institutional policy and procedures.
• Teach Academic Success courses as needed.
• Champion the College’s retention, progression, completion, equity, and inclusion initiatives, ensuring social and economic success for all learners.
• Support the College’s mission, vision, and core values by adhering to all policies and procedures.

Related Responsibilities:
• Familiarize themselves with the responsibilities of key collaborators within high schools, such as the high school career development coordinator, counselor, principal, and personnel from community colleges.
• Participate in college-wide, divisional, and departmental meetings; contribute to advisory and standing committees and focus groups on formulating recommendations concerning educational pathways, courses, policies, and procedures.
• Recommend procedures for maintaining compliance with local, state, and federal guidelines.
• Assist in communicating policy and procedure information to parents.
• Pursue and engage in professional development activities each academic year, including required and recommended employee training offered by the College, research, and remain current in professional literature by participating in professional organizations, taking classes, and attending conferences or workshops.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Dean of Educational Partnerships and Student Success and/or Vice President for Learning.

Surroundings/Environment:
The Transition Liaison will primarily work indoors in an office or learning environment with moderate noise levels, free from outdoor elements. They will collaborate closely with colleagues and occasionally work online or during irregular hours. They are responsible for maintaining cleanliness, ensuring equipment and supplies are well-maintained, functional, and adhering to OSHA standards to provide a safe work environment.

Physical Effort:
The Transition Liaison must maintain physical condition for their duties, including standing, walking, sitting, moderate lifting, manual dexterity, equipment operation, and computer screen exposure. They may occasionally handle up to 15 pounds. They must have good audio-visual perception for observations, reading, writing, equipment operation, and communication. The Liaison should demonstrate intellectual capabilities, numerical proficiency, and confidentiality to make informed decisions while evaluating programs, services, and personal effectiveness.

Schedule:
This position is a 37.5-hour full-time position. Normal working hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm; however, candidates must be able to work a flexible schedule, with day, evening, and weekend hours as job duties demand.

Travel:
Local travel between campuses, medical, businesses, industry locations, and elementary, middle, and high schools may be required. In-state and out-of-state travel is limited but may be necessary for professional development, training, conferences, and workshops.
