Minimum Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Doctorate degree in a discipline appropriate to higher education leadership from a regionally accredited university;
- A minimum of five years senior experience in instructional leadership in higher education; and,
- Demonstrated teaching experience in a postsecondary setting.

- Ability to work or meet in the evenings and/or on weekends, when required.

- Ability to perform essential computer skills (log on/off a computer, manage and organize files, print/scan forms using a copier, maintain and recall secure passwords, and change password(s) routinely per College procedures).

Position Description
The Vice President of Academic Affairs serves as the College’s Chief Academic Officer (CAO). Reporting to the President, the CAO provides the senior leadership and strategic vision for academics; ensures the quality of curriculum, instruction, and student assessment; and, oversees the College’s adherence to programmatic accreditation standards. The Vice President of Academic Affairs is committed to the continuous improvement of instructional programs and fosters a collaborative culture where faculty and staff work together as partners in student success. The CAO ensures the alignment of academic programs to achieve institutional goals and objectives and guides the development of programs that address the region’s emerging educational needs.
- Work with academic deans to administer programs, assess the effectiveness of programs including student learning outcomes, and make plans for the improvement of academic programs to include immediate and long-range plans and objectives.
- Ensure compliance with the requirements of accrediting agencies and other governing bodies.
- Administer and oversee the Curriculum budget to include development, supplies, equipment, and funds for professional development and travel.
- Meet regularly with academic deans and other staff members to coordinate the operations and functions of the Academic Affairs Unit.
- Make recommendations to the President concerning the employment of Academic Affairs personnel.
- Approve Academic Affairs staff schedules.
- Administer and oversee the Library Services budget to include development, supplies, equipment, and funds for professional development and travel.
- Work with the Director of Library Services to administer services, assess the effectiveness of library resources, and make plans for the improvement of library services to include immediate and long-range plans and objectives.
- Serve as a member of the President’s Cabinet, participate in policy and procedure development, and be responsible for the implementation of policies and procedures.
- Directly supervise and evaluate the Dean of College Transfer, the Dean of Health Sciences and Public Services, the Director of Library Services, and Academic Affairs staff, with ultimate responsibility for all full-time and adjunct faculty members; supervise the evaluation of all faculty members.
- Ensure articulation agreements with local education agencies, the North Carolina Community College System, and other appropriate entities are completed as necessary.
- Direct the study, development, and implementation of new programs for the College. With the President, recommend and implement the decision to terminate programs.
- Participate in annual and strategic planning for the College. Maintain the Academic Affairs Unit Level Plan including departmental goals and objectives that comply with the College mission.
- Facilitate educational partnerships with local schools, workforce development groups, consortia, and other groups and agencies as appropriate.
- Work cooperatively with the College’s academic advisement program.
- Approve the curriculum class schedule.
- Serve on committees as assigned.
- Attend Board of Trustees meetings as required. Make reports when requested.
- Perform other duties as assigned and other related duties incident to the work described herein.
