Position Description

GENERAL FUNCTION:   

The Vice President of Academic Programs and Chief Academic Officer has the comprehensive responsibility for the success of students in achieving their educational goals. The Executive Vice President is responsible for educational policy, quality academic programs, and activities and initiatives in accordance with the College’s mission and goals, core values, policies and priorities. Working collaboratively with the other College Vice Presidents and members of the Cabinet, this individual provides leadership for accreditation, program review and continuous improvement, student success, and development of academic faculty and staff. The Vice President provides/oversees budget development and fiscal accountability within Academics. He/She serves as a member of the President’s Cabinet, provides oversight for Clery reporting and Human Resources.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Provides leadership for broader College issues in the absence of the President
  • Promotes academic accountability, cooperation, teamwork, and creativity by supporting and modeling the College’s Core Values: excellence, integrity, respect, opportunity and community
  • Works collaboratively and collegially with the Vice Presidents and other Cabinet members to recommend new and revised policies and procedures; participates in activities that support effective teaching and learning environments; and fiscal accountability
  • Serve as the liaison for regional (Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges, SACS) and individual program accreditation and supervises efforts to promote and ensure compliance
  • Leads the development, implementation, communication, and evaluation of Core Team programs, activities and initiatives enhancing student success
  • Provides leadership for the development and implementation of appropriate professional development opportunities for faculty and staff
  • Provides leadership for the support initiatives assuring continuous improvement for student access, success and completion
  • Monitors teaching and learning trends to ensure course content and teaching methodology are current and relevant
  • In concert with the VP of Continuing Education & Workforce Development, promotes program crosswalks and services
  • Fosters collaborative relationships, programs, and student success initiatives with Brunswick County public, private and home schools in addition to identifying and creating sustainable university articulation agreements
  • Formulates and recommends the departmental budget and is fiscally conservative ensuring expenditures comply with regulations; ensures a balanced budget
  • Engages the Board of Trustees through the Academic and Student Affairs Committee
  • Participates in professional organizations, SACS teams, and state-level committees to support the continued success of the College and own professional growth
  • Provides leadership and oversight for BCC’s policy administration
  • Provides leadership for campus safety and Clery reporting
  • Provides leadership for Human Resources

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Departments supervised by this position include Arts and Science, Health Sciences, Professional and Technical Programs, Center for Advanced Studies, (high school partnerships), Early College High School (college-level curriculum), and Institutional Effectiveness and Accreditation. Serves as the assigned College Liaison to the Sheriff’s Office and supervises Human Resources.
