Minimum Qualifications

Master’s degree in Guidance and Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or Higher Education Administration; experience in teaching and/or administration in an educational institution. Four years full time experience in Student Services as a supervisor.

Preferred Qualifications

All of the minimum qualifications specified above with a minimum of seven years of increasingly responsible management and supervisory experience in one or more areas of student services in a community college environment.  

Position Description

This position oversees the development and application of policies and procedures that affect the student body in the areas of Strategic Enrollment Management and Student Success. Under the general supervision of the President, plan, organize, and direct a comprehensive student services program at the college, including Student Development, such as recruiting, retention, student engagement, counseling, admissions, registration, veterans’ certification, student success services, and Student Affairs, such as student government, financial aid career counseling, student grievance, and the disciplinary process. Incumbents may act as chief officer in the absence of the President, as assigned.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Provides leadership, management, and supervision for the planning, organizing, budgeting, and coordinating of the student affairs units while achieving institutional goals and objectives. Establishes and implements short and long-range organizational goals, objectives, strategic plans, policies, and operating procedures; monitors and evaluates programmatic and operational effectiveness, and effects changes required for improvement.
 
Provide leadership in the following areas: strategic enrollment strategies, recruiting, retention, student engagement, counseling, admissions, registration, veteran’s certification, student success, financial aid, career counseling, student grievances, and disciplinary processes.
 
Select, supervise, and evaluate student services personnel. Make staff assignments in accordance with established college policies, plan and coordinate orientation and in-service education for professional development for all assigned staff.
 
Maintains a visible profile both on campus and with external constituencies and engages with the faculty, student, alumni, staff in the Edgecombe County communities. Anticipates and stays abreast of emerging issues, promotes strong professional development for the region and staff, and remains professionally active in research, scholarship, and the student development profession.
 
Develop annual budget recommendations according to established procedures; allocate, monitor, and control assigned program budgets and expenditures. 
 
Participate in institutional planning, cooperating with others to provide leadership, promote effective and high quality teaching and learning, develop strategic partnerships, and plan proper resource allocations.
 
Plan college recruiting and advertising strategies in conjunction with other departments such as the public information officer and instructional personnel.
 
Supervise and assist in the preparation of all student services publications including the college catalog, college handbook, program pamphlets, and financial aid materials.
 
Serve on various institutional and professional committees to remain aware of institutional and national student development trends and innovations.
 
Represent the College in professional associations such as the Student Services Personnel Association of the NC Community College System; work with appropriate System Office personnel regarding matters pertaining to the student services personnel work of the College.
 
Represent the College at various state and local programs and events.
 
Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
 
Supervise and assist financial aid, scholarship, retention, recruiting, and all other student services committees in implementing suggestions and recommendations.
