Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Instructional Design or related field (e.g. Instructional Technology, Educational Technology, Education, etc.)
- Thorough knowledge of instructional design principles and pedagogical strategies
- Experience developing instructional learning material and providing user support services
- Experience with Learning Management Systems such as Moodle
- Consultation skills to assess user needs, content, and identify gaps
- Experience working with subject matter experts
- Ability to work independently or in teams, collaborate with others, lead projects, and provide excellent customer service
Preferred Qualifications
- Three years of relevant experience working with instructional design and instructional technology-related projects
- Quality Matters Certified Online Instructor (or similar)
- Experience with applying Quality Matters rubric (or similar rubric, e.g., OSCQR)
- Experience with content authoring tools such as Camtasia and Articulate Storyline or Rise
- Experience with synchronous tools such as MS Teams and Blackboard Collaborate
- Familiarity with Microcredentials or Digital Badges
- Familiarity with Open Educational Resources
Position Description
This position is a grant funded position that requires a collaborative approach that applies critical thinking and creative problem solving abilities to support the success of the learning college philosophy and the directives of the North Carolina Community College (NCCCS) Virtual Learning Community (VLC) Quality and Assessment Center while managing VLC course development. The NCCCS Quality and Assessment Center Director/ SCC’s VP of Academic and Student Affairs shall be responsible for the oversight of the Center.
This position will have direct access to confidential information that should not be disclosed directly or indirectly to others for any other purpose than to perform the essential duties of this position.
NOTE: Teleworking position option.
On campus and occasional travel required.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Supervising, advising, and consulting with subject matter experts (SMEs) and other support staff.
- Reviewing and editing course content through the processes of development, revision, video lesson/lecture production (storyboard, alpha, beta versions), and input into Blackboard and Moodle.
- Overseeing copyright and ADA compliance; managing communication processes with SMEs and staff, including regularly scheduled meetings with SMEs and other VLC staff (instructional designers, technical staff, and video production teams); providing final approval of courses for release.
- Serve as a consultant to SME with regard to course design, development of program and course level assessments, and assessment methods and tools to achieve student learning outcomes.
- Provide technical support for the development of online content and learning object models for use in online courses for the North Carolina Community College System Virtual Learning Community (VLC) and Surry Community College.
- Assist with technical editing for course development projects to ensure course completion following VLC development standards.
- Assist with entering content provide by subject matter experts into LMSs to create finished courses.
- Ensure all VLC course content in LMSs are WCAG 2.0 AA compliant.
- Proficient in the use of digital media tools and software.
- Maintain a clean and safe work area.
