Expected Work Hours

Full-time faculty are required to be on campus or a designated work site for a minimum of thirty (30) hours a week, four (4) days a week.

Minimum Qualifications

· A minimum of:

o A Bachelor’s degree in Welding – OR

o An Associate’s degree in Welding; one or more currently valid welding certifications – based on AWS standards – from AWS, ASME, API, or other related organization; and five (5) or more years of full-time equivalent experience in welding – OR

o Documentation of significant and extensive experience or contributions to welding demonstrated through: one or more currently valid certifications from AWS, ASME, API, or other related organization based on AWS standards; work experience, technical and performance competency, records of publications, or other qualifying credentials.

· Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing

· Working knowledge/utilization of word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software applications

Preferred Qualifications

· Ten or more years direct work experience as a welder

· AWS D1.1 certification(s); OSHA 10-hour or 30-hour general industry certification

· Minimum of the equivalent of one academic year of full-time teaching experience at the post-secondary level

· Previous experience with online instruction via a course management system such as Canvas

· Knowledge and/or experience with learning outcomes assessment

· Demonstrated innovation within the field of education and/or technology

· Evidence of effective problem-solving, critical thinking, and decision-making skills

· Evidence of a career that includes a strong work ethic with a proven track record of project completion, multi-tasking, and the ability to handle high-pressure environments

· Evident of a willingness to accept responsibility for professional and personal growth

Job Description

The Welding Technology Faculty is a full-time 9-month position primarily located at the Tyson Family Center For Technology in Monroe, NC. Under the direction of the Director, Skilled Trades and Advanced Manufacturing, the Welding Technology Faculty provides quality learning opportunities that assist students in meeting their educational goals and career aspirations in the Welding Technology program. This individual has responsibility for teaching and learning, curriculum development, advising, professional development, institutional service, and community relations. Licenses and/or certifications used for credentialing purposes must be kept current by the employee, unless noted otherwise.

Job Duties

· Create classroom activities and learning environments that meet the needs of all learners, including high school students, adult learners, and senior populations.

· Exhibit an uncompromising commitment to SPCC as a learning-centered college through the College’s mission, vision, values, core skills and learning outcomes, and delivery of instruction and services

· Continue professional development for the improvement of self and the program to meet the needs of a learning-centered college

· Stay current with developments in the discipline by earning additional industry-recognized credentials as assigned by the supervisor

· Maintain current licensure, certification, or other professional credentials required for the position

· Provide accessibility to students and colleagues as expected in a learning-centered college

· Accept teaching assignments, based on the needs of the college, at one or more of the following: L.L. Polk campus (Polkton), Old Charlotte Highway campus (Monroe), in high school and community locations (Anson and/or Union counties), or in a corrections setting (Anson county)

· Accept teaching assignments scheduled during the day, evening, weekends, or online

· Participate in or support the mentoring process, the SPCC Foundation, and grant identification, preparation, implementation, and evaluation

· Perform other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor, the dean, or the Vice President of Academic Affairs
