RESPONSIBILITIES:The Work-Based Learning (WBL) Coordinator is supported through the Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Act and is a 12-month position subject to continued federal funding annually. The Coordinator, serving the service area of Davidson and Davie counties, will collaborate with faculty, staff, students, and the community to identify and develop partnerships that result in work-based learning opportunities for students.  WBL opportunities include, but are not limited to, WBL courses, apprenticeships, internships, and job shadowing experiences. The WBL Coordinator reports to the Dean, Workforce and has the following responsibilities:
 

  • Works with faculty and staff to identify needs and guidelines for WBL experiences across all program areas for both curriculum and continuing education
  • Creates and maintains relationships with the community to support WBL opportunities.
  • Assists faculty and staff in management of WBL logistics, including student pairing and scheduling
  • Supports faculty training and engagement in WBL opportunities
  • Provides orientation and support for WBL students
  • Serve as the liaison for Apprenticeship NC assisting with new apprentice registration forms and agreements, applications for apprentices’ completion, and any changes to the apprentices’ status
  • Serves as the point of contact for community partners engaged in or interested in WBL.
  • Works with Davidson-Davie academic areas to design new WBL opportunities.
  • Assists with maintenance of student records related to WBL
  • Collaborates with academic areas to market and promote opportunities to potential students and partners
  • Plans and hosts periodic WBL Advisory Board meetings
  • Facilitates partnerships that support industry needs and educational connections
  • Coordinate with companies and Davidson-Davie marketing regarding prospective apprenticeship events, meetings and signings
  • Maintain a database of employers and contracts for WBL experiences
  • Serve as the primary liaison between community partners and Davidson-Davie faculty and staff involved in WBL
  • Coordinate an annual appreciation event for WBL sites
  • Collect relevant data regarding WBL student and employer experiences
  • Assist in recruiting efforts for WBL opportunities where applicable
  • Maintain high level of sensitivity, understanding, and respect for a diverse academic environment, inclusive of students, faculty, and staff of varying social, economic, cultural, ideological, and ethnic backgrounds
  • Support the mission, vision, and values of the College and attends College events and meetings
