Position Description

Statement of Primary Purpose
The Work-Based Learning Coordinator supports the development, implementation, and management of work-based learning programs for career and technical education students. This includes facilitating opportunities for students to explore, experience, and engage in work-based learning modalities such as cooperative education, pre-apprenticeships, apprenticeships, internships, job shadowing and field observations.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Coordinate student exploration and understanding of the world of work associated with SCC's Career Technologies and Health Sciences programs:
● Serve as a resource to assist faculty and students in gaining knowledge about the nature and characteristics of occupations served by the College's applied science degree programs
● Promote work-based learning programs to recruit student and employer participation
● Assist with program advisory committees, career day, and job fair events
● Refer students to Career Services office as needed for individual career exploration and planning

Coordinate Student Engagement in Work-Based Learning experiences to directly apply classroom and lab skills:
● Assist with student placement in work-based learning (WBL) assignments
● Provide student orientations to WBL/cooperative education courses
● Collaborate with faculty, employers, and students to create appropriate learning outcomes for specific WBL assignments
● Serve as instructor of record for WBL/cooperative education courses
● Conduct site visits with students and employers during WBL assignments
● Facilitate the assessment of student learning outcomes during WBL experiences
● Maintain detailed, accurate records of WBL/cooperative education experiences as required for academic credit and college reporting
● Post potential WBL sites and positions on the SCC job board
● Develop as appropriate regional apprenticeships and pre-apprenticeships to serve the needs of employers and students

Minimum Qualifications
Education
Required: Bachelor's degree in counseling, business, education or related field.
Preferred: Master's degree in counseling, business, education or related field.
Minimum of 2 years' experience working in counseling, business, education or related field.

Knowledge and Skills
● Strong organizational and planning skills required, with attention to detail and accurate record keeping
● Effective use of technology such as online conference tools, learning management system and the google suite of products.
● Effective interpersonal skills for establishing a productive rapport with employers, instructors, and students
● Excellent written and oral communications skills required
● Knowledge of employability skills and local job market preferred
● College teaching, student service, or workforce innovations experience preferred.

Physical Demands
Ability to navigate a variety of work environments including industrial and outdoor/recreational settings.

Working Conditions and Environment
Frequent daily travel may be required to meet with employers and monitor students during work-based learning assignments in western North Carolina. Occasional evening and weekend hours may be required.

Licensing Requirement
Valid Driver's License for college vehicle operation

Equipment Operation
PC, standard office equipment.
