Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in business administration, human resources, industrial education, instructional design or discipline related to the assigned workforce training area from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of experience in designing, providing, and/or coordinating industry-specific training in higher education, business or the public sector; or Associate’s degree in any of those same disciplines from an appropriately accredited institution and five years of experience in designing, providing, and/or coordinating industry-specific training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Position Description
The Regional Youth Apprenticeship Coordinator is time-limited, grant funded position. As an employee of the NC Community College System, the candidate will work in the Western Geographic Region of North Carolina (Alleghany, Ashe, Avery, Buncombe, Burke, Caldwell, Clay, Cherokee, Graham, Haywood, Henderson, Jackson, Macon, Madison, Mitchell, Polk, Surry, Swain, Transylvania, Watauga, Wilkes, Yadkin) to promote, develop and register youth apprenticeship and training programs with employers and other sponsors, Public Schools and Community Colleges. The Coordinator assesses each occupation before designing the specific work processes and related instruction. The Coordinator assists the sponsor and apprenticeship consultant in registering employees into these high skilled training programs.
The Regional Youth Apprenticeship Coordinator works with employers to create a recruitment and screening process for candidates applying for a pre-apprenticeship or apprenticeship. The Coordinator will also conduct workshops and seminars across the state targeted at employers, parents, teachers and school administrators about apprenticeship. Work is performed independently under the general supervision of the Director of Youth Apprenticeship.
The position should be hosted externally by a Community College within this economic development region.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/AND ABILITIES:
- Considerable knowledge of and experience in workforce development;
- Skills in project development;
- Ability to promote and market Apprenticeship to multiple customers;
- Excellent oral and written communication skills;
- Ability to convene groups and develop consensus;
- Utilization of Microsoft applications to include Excel, Outlook, Power Point and Excel;
- Ability to work independently, to coordinate multiple tasks, and to manage time.
PREFERENCES: The applicant should possess facilitator skills, sales, marketing and train the trainer skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and the internet.
