Minimum Qualifications

Required educational background:

  • Bachelor’s degree plus alternative or equivalent professional training, and experience may be substituted for the advanced degree on an exceptional basis.

 

Required kind and number years of work experience:

  • Two years working with middle and/or high school-age youth or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

Required knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • Bilingual in Spanish and English.
  • Proven project management skills including program planning, budgeting, and reporting experience.

 

Required license or certificate: 

  • Valid Driver's license and approval required by the College’s liability insurance carrier

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in the secondary education system in North Carolina;
  • Experience working with Latinx families and youth;
  • Ability to plan high-quality programs, services, or activities;
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing, including in group presentations;
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously;
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and willingness to take initiative;
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to develop strong relationships with students;
  • Ability to foster and maintain strong collaborative relationships with internal and external partners;
  • Ability to accurately maintain required documentation and prepare reports;
  • Ability to utilize technology effectively; 
  • Ability to seek and identify methods for continuous improvement of the program;
  • Understanding and respect for diversity;
  • Proficiency in the use of computers for: Word processing, Simple accounting, Databases; Spreadsheets; E-mail; Internet; and Google Suite.

Position Description

The Juntos Coordinator position will direct the day-to-day functions of the Juntos program in Lee County. The coordinator will work with school(s) to recruit up to 60 Latino 9th-12th grade students to participate in the Juntos program with their families in Lee County via Family Engagement (workshops & family nights), one-on-one success coaching, Juntos 4-H Club, and Summer Academy.

This is a grant-funded position. Continuation of position is contingent upon grant funds.

Essential Duties

 

  • Promote the Juntos program via introductory meetings with schools, community partners, and families throughout each programming year.
  • Build strong communication channels between grant partners (NC State University Juntos office, CCCC, local Cooperative Extension office, and Lee County school system). Facilitate communication and coordination with extension field faculty, school personnel, and program partners.
  • Work with grant partners to build local community partnerships to support programming and sustainability efforts.
  • Manage the recruitment and attendance of students and families in the program throughout each program year. Meet expected recruitment numbers set by the grant.
  • Plan educational content for Family Nights every other month, and conduct the Juntos Family Workshop series once a year.
  • Work with schools to coordinate and schedule bi-monthly 4-H Club meetings.
  • Engage  student leaders, Latinx parents and community volunteers in the planning and facilitation of 4-H Club activities and meetings. 
  • Monitor the academic progress of up to Latino(a)x youth in the program by creating an academic action plan for each student and conducting monthly one-on-one success coaching sessions.
  • Work with grant partners to support cohorts of students engaged in Juntos STEM workforce development model.
  • Manage the program, including updating participant registration, maintaining project task logs, meeting minutes, sign-in sheets, attendance records, and related activities.
  • Manage project budgets.
  • Monitor the overall project timeline and track project successes (including taking pictures, documenting success stories, and managing social media).
  • Attend conference calls and/or training/meetings scheduled by NC State University Juntos staff.
  • Submit required quarterly and other grant reports on the program’s progress. 
  • Conduct baseline and follow-up surveys with Latinx parents and youth. Assist with other data collection and coordination of evaluation data as needed.
  • Work with NC State University to support student engagement in Juntos STEM workforce development model. 
  • Other duties as assigned.
