Position Description

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced individual to join our team as the Youth Programming Coordinator. This individual will lead ACC’s youth-oriented programming, including the Alamance Juvenile Opportunity Bridge (AJOB) program, Medical Bridge, Summer Programming, etc. These programs have been in successful operation for several years and ACC is hiring a full-time coordinator to focus on strengthening the long-term operations and plans for these programs.

In this role, you will lead efforts to continue development and implementation, enhance, and expand the program, leveraging your expertise in working with youth, including at-risk youth, to provide mentorship, support, and guidance while also building community partnerships. As the primary driver of program growth and development, you will develop curriculum, collaborate with community partners, increase awareness and referrals, oversee budgetary matters, and cultivate a support network to maximize the impact of ACC youth programming.

AJOB Overview:
The Alamance Juvenile Opportunity Bridge (AJOB) program aims to improve the lives of at-risk youth (specifically juvenile first-time offenders and those on probation between ages 13 and 17) in Alamance County through a career exploration and employability skills course. This program, facilitated by Alamance Community College (ACC) professionals, serves in lieu of traditional community service work assignments and is a diversion pathway. AJOB is a collaborative initiative that involves multiple partners throughout Alamance County.

The program currently provides a two-fold service to students. One service is a comprehensive curriculum focused on improving students’ ability to manage everyday living. Students are guided through lessons and activities that develop and practice certain interpersonal and essential life skills. The other service is structured opportunities for AJOB students to interact with and learn from ACC faculty who serve as career field experts. The intent of these sessions is to enhance a student’s understanding of a specific industry, provide hands-on activities for students to learn by doing, and create space for students to ask faculty questions related to their experiences and perspectives in the field.

Since January 1, 2024, the program has received funding from a grant awarded by the Governor’s Crime Commission (GCC). The GCC acts as the main advisory body to the Governor of North Carolina and to the Secretary of Public Safety on issues related to crime and justice. This funding source will last for two years and is scheduled to expire in December 2025. The program has been running successfully for several months in its pilot and initial implementation phases.

Medical Bridge Overview:
The Medical Bridge program addresses the lack of minority males in healthcare professions such as doctors, dentists, pharmacists, physical therapists, and physician’s assistants. Alamance Community College leads the program and has strong partnerships with the Alamance-Burlington School System (ABSS), the Medical School at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Elon University Physician Assistant Program, and additional emerging partners. Student ages are rising sixth graders through high school. This program has been in operation since 2019 with grant funding from the Burroughs Wellcome Fund.

ACC is currently applying for a second round of funding and, with that application, is planning to expand the participant reach to minority female students for the same age group. Students attend a two-week full-day camp at ACC that combines hands-on learning activities with field trips to museums and college campuses.

Summer Youth Programming
ACC operates several youth summer programs in conjunction with various departments at the college. The Coordinator will be responsible for continuing and expanding these programs, optimizing participation, responsiveness to needs, and both community and partner outreach.

Example of Duties

Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Coordinate with ABSS on outreach to students and with additional community partners on activity planning. Coordinate with ACC faculty and staff on additional programming and logistical support.

  • Manage the program budget effectively, including oversight of expenditures, budget planning, and fiscal accountability.
